Merida Mexico : Plaza de la Independencia - One of the most amazing plazas Ive ever seen - Dario Blog

2 January 2010

mexico plaza independencia merida

One very long five hour depressing bus ride and I got from Cancun to Merida (Mexico). The bus driver tortured us with freezing air conditioning all the way and really slow speed. At first the bus drives thru tiney streets in Merida which make it clear that most of the town is a dumpster. So once off the bus I was really worried since it looked like I was somewhere in Huntington Park or other East Los Angeles Latino neighborhood. Then suddenly I reached the main Plaza de la Independencia and I must say it is one of the most beautiful plaza's I've ever seen. Not just because of the cathedral and the surrounding buildings, but also because of the beautiful human vibe in the park at the center of the plaza. Simply Beautiful. Oh, *FREE* Wifi at the plaza. Why can't we have that in Madrid. Mr. Gallardon? Sra Aguirre? AND the municipality building called "Palacio del Ejecutivo" was open to the public till late at night displaying beautiful murals and the building itself is amazing.
