LIME NEW ALBUM LOVE FURY 2002

One of the main record companies generating Italo_disco records was "Memory Records". Was that label based in Parma? So many classics mostly produced by A.Zanni & S.Cundari..... This one sounds a bit like Wang Chung...has a slik production.

   12" 50 & 50 Brothers

While product was comming in from Italy....there was also a prolific producer in Belgium : "the De Wolf" family. I didn't care too much for their product ... I thought they sounded a bit too noisy and were a bit too campy for my taste... However one of their singles "Las Manos Quietas (hands off)" with vocals by Carlos Perez was an exception. With bpm in the lower 120's and a moody synth arrangement and pensive melody...it was a joy to listen to. I made the scan bellow using the sleave for its U.S release on JCD records in San Pedro, CA. Aparently for the U.S release they had this gurl sing an english version on the A-side.

When trying to figure out which records to review-post on my site I ended up re-listning to Eddy Huntington's "Be My friend". Now you have to realize that this song is written and performed by a bunch of italians that probably don't speak English. I listened to the lyrics and was laughing out loud!! Heres a little bit of the lyrics: " I've got a friend ...he's so much fun... and he's ready for action... meet my friend...he knows ever little TRICK...meet my friend named DICK"

Italo_Disco is just a name we use to group a certain musical phenomenon. To prove that not everything came out of Italy , heres Rose Laurens. She had a hit with "Africa". I really like "Nightlife". The b-sides have French versions of the song. I also have a french language lp from her. Writer & producer JP Goussaud

Cruisin' records was out of Modena Italy which has turned out to be a very prolific town in Dance music (one of my favorite HOUSE artists "Double Dee" was based there too). Among the many records on Cruisin this is my favorite. its by Solid Strangers. The songwriting is credited to (stoltefuss/Wermer) which if you ask me...does not sound italian at all...so my guess is that german groups were finding ways to release their songs through these italian dance labels. This band has another single called "Vision" ..which I do not have...& its on my Wish list...

   1985

This was a hit. Its Thru ZYX. It's such a fun record. The synth 1-8 1-8 bass track has been mixed loud in your face....and the "money" chant just requires one's participation. Released in 1987 even here in the U.S. as I was shocked to come accross it in a store here in the Bay Area!!

   12" MOZZART

Notes: I love this ....it has a female chorus that sounds like the girl from LIME . I find it very emotional. Theres other releases under the name MyMine as well (Can Delight) and a whole LP ....but theres no trace of the female vocals...instead you get a male vocal...and theres a picture of 3 germanic looking guys.

Notes: 1983 this had a Video and went to #1 in Spain(CBS-sony). It was released in Italy by BABY records and hit the top40 there....because of that the song is familiar to many Italo Disco lovers....so here's the scan ...for you to enjoy....and the pleasure is mine!

   Righeira " Hey Mama"

We all know "Vamos a la Playa". This one was also produced by LaBionda It's sung in Italian and its really fun and very original... doesn't sound like anything else. I think theirs 2 lps for Righeira

   Dolce vida - Kristian Conde 86 Max!

Notes: No its not a cover of the Ryan Paris song... but yes its pure Italo_Disco heaven from Barcelona. His pronounciation is good too. This was released in the U.S as I found out in some San Francisco record store bargain bin!

The song Bellow is "Fotonovela" by Ivan. Production credit and songwriting goes to Spains RT2 who I'm not sure who it is....but he has produced some killer records. It was a minor hit (#24 on the sales charts) in its native Spain which really did not support at Radio level any dance music. Then It went on to become # 1 in France & number 8 in Germany. Has an elegant Black and White video.

the Netherlands were prolific in central European Dance and Italo_disco sound. This is such a killer song. So well written and performed....proof of the high quality of this music. A huge hit in central Europe in 1984. An Lp followed ...the follow up single "flirting and showing" hit only #40 in Germany...probably because it was too complex and artsy. Apart from the one lp I've never heard anymore from them. Was released in the U.S.A and remixed by Shepp Pettibone.
