Barrabas the 70s funk band Rarities plus release Fernando Arbex memories from a Moron Barrabas el grupo de los 70 y Soltad la memoria de Fernando Arbex de un Gilipollas

barrabas funk

Probably the most important figure in Spain's modern music, excluding classical and flamenco and Julio Iglesias, would be Fernando Arbex and his many projects including particularly the brillant 70s funk band Barrabas . After their first two albums, Barrabas recorded 4 more in the United States. The last of which was called Swinger, released in 1977, which aparently was unfinished. I suspect that Arbex used many songs originally designed for that Barrabas project for other artists. I will talk about that later. But I have to start this article talking about an idiot lier called Jose ma Moll.

This idiot lier of Moll was simply a little replaceable drummer boy, that was kicked out of the band before Barrabas recorded their two best albums "Heart of the City" and "Watch Out". Unfortunately now that Arbex is no longer alive, little drummer boy has started using the name Barrabas to get concerts and has opened a website for Barrabas where he clearly miss represents himself and claims to himself achievements that belong to Arbex. I hope that Arbexes daughter and heir looks into this matter at some point.

As I said Arbex broke up the 70s run of Barrabas abruptly in 1977. Around that exact same period Arbex was producing some Spanish artist. A close listen to those LP´s makes it obvious that he used tracks intended for Barrabas for these unlikely artists. God knows, I hate Miguel Bosé or Camilo Sesto, but forgetting who they are one can realize that tracks like Bosé´s mega hit ANNA or Camilo Sesto´s unreleased "Slowly (come to me) " were in reality Barrabas magic. Listen to samples below.

By the way I had the first website dedicated to Barrabas in 1999. At that time there were no other sites and I had so many letters from Brazil to Colombia to the US, France and Spain. Including letters from Joe Tejada's daughter, the son of Tito Duarte, etc... Here is a copy of that old site
